How do I know if somatic therapy is right for me?

Many folks find themselves seeking somatic therapy after they have tried several other modalities and found that they are still struggling or experiences symptoms. Some folks stumble upon somatic therapy and say "it just makes sense." Somatic therapy can be challenging for those who have spent a long time at war with, dissociated from, or disconnected from their bodies. This does not mean it is not for you! It does mean, approaching your journey in therapy will need to move in a way that is unique for you. This may mean not starting with somatic work until later in your journey, or integrating a handful of various other modalities as we go along. Please let me know if you have concerns/curiosities about engaging in somatic therapy for yourself.

What should I expect during my first therapy session?

Vanessa tends to meet clients where they are. So we will focus heavily on what's bringing you to therapy at this time, what you're wanting to focus on, and doing an overview intake of how the facets of your life are currently supporting your or not.

What types of Sessions do you offer?
Currently, I offer relational therapy, individual therapy, with some selected family therapy sessions (depending on the fit)
I offer walking sessions, hiking sessions, in office visits, and telehealth.
If you are private pay, we can run sessions for however short or long feels like the best fit for you and your unique needs in therapy.
How do I know what therapy modalities would be best for me?

Folks can find "results" from a variety of different modalities. One modality may bring about a lot of benefit at a specific phase of your journey and at another time may no longer be useful. Some modalities are "mainstays" for someone and some need more diversity. Generally, it is best to notice what most resonates with you. I will admit I have a bias in that any modality should include some component of addressing how the body stores experiences and memories to allow for a more wholistic approach.

My general belief is "there is no one size that fits all". That being said, my work is integrative in nature and draws from a variety of techniques and modalities we collaboratively choose together to find the best fit for your unique situation. There are so many modalities of therapy out there. f there is one in particular you are curious about, please don't hesitate to ask about it! Whether we work together or not, I want to help make this information accessible, so I would be happy to provide some resources as needed.
